CTOnews.com, July 25 (Reuters)-after jury discussion, the court ruled on July 21 that Google had committed patent infringement on its Chromecast devices and asked Google to compensate the software developer $338.7 million (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 2.435 billion yuan).

A court spokesman said on Monday that a number of devices such as Google's Chromecast infringed Touchstream Technologies's screen patents after jury deliberations.

Touchstream sued in 2021, claiming that its founder, David Strober, invented video technology in 2010 to project compact devices such as smartphones onto larger screens such as televisions.

According to the indictment, Google discussed its technology with Touchstream in December 2011; in February 2012, Google expressed no interest; and in 2013, Google launched the Chromecast device.

Touchstream claims that Google's Chromecast replicates its technological advances and infringes three patents. The company further said that Google's Home and Nest smart speakers, as well as third-party televisions and speakers with Chromecast features, also infringed their patents.

In response, Google refuted any infringement of Touchstream's intellectual property rights and argued that the patents were invalid.

Jose Castaneda, Google's representative, said the company "always develops technology independently and competes based on its own ideas". Castaneda said Google planned to appeal the verdict.
