CTOnews.com, July 24 (Xinhua) Samsung submitted approval documents for a new 77-inch OLED TV to regulators on July 22, according to BusinessKorea, which uses LG's OLED panel instead of Samsung's own QD-OLED panel.

▲ source PexelsCTOnews.com previously reported that Samsung registered a new 83-inch OLED TV with LG panels a month ago, while Samsung registered a 77-inch OLED TV with LG panels in March.

Under an agreement signed earlier this year between Samsung and LG, LG will provide Samsung Electronics with 2 million 77-inch and 83-inch OLED panels. Sources say the 77-inch OLED TV Samsung recently submitted shows that Samsung intends to expand its cooperation with LG on the OLED panel.

Samsung's existing QD-OLED panel uses quantum dot technology to achieve high contrast, high brightness and pure color performance. But the high cost and low production capacity of QD-OLED panels make Samsung's TV sales vulnerable to panel shortages. LG's WRGB OLED panel is cheaper and more productive, so Samsung chose to turn to LG to fill the demand gap.

Industry insiders said that the current supply of LG to Samsung's OLED panel is relatively small, but this is undoubtedly a positive signal for LG. For consumers, if Samsung buys more panels from LG, the choice of its TV range will increase, especially in the lower price range, which is also expected to push down the price of large OLED TVs.
