CTOnews.com, July 24 (Xinhua)-- Milan Nedeljkovic, production director of BMW Group, recently said that stronger-than-expected demand for electric cars in Europe will help offset the negative impact of falling orders in China, BMW's largest market, according to foreign media Automotive News Europe.

Since the beginning of this year, Tesla has offered varying degrees of price reduction and promotion measures in many places around the world, in order to make way for new models such as Model 3. But the official did not plan to follow in Tesla's footsteps, saying BMW "does not intend to lower the price of electric cars".

Milan Nedeljkovic pointed out that orders for new BMW cars are declining in China, but demand in the US is increasing, which is "in line with previous expectations". At the same time, in the European market, with the popularity of electric cars, the number of orders is also rising, while the demand for fuel vehicles is flat.

BMW has said it expects deliveries of electric vehicles to account for 15 per cent of total deliveries this year and 50 per cent by 2030.

CTOnews.com previously reported that BMW's largest European production plant in Dingolfen, Germany, has begun to produce electric i5 models, and the first i5 was released on July 22 under the supervision of BMW management board member Milan Nedeljkovi coach. The Dingolfen plant took 280000 cars off the line last year and is expected to far exceed 300000 this year, along with the production of i5 models.

BMW officially launched the electric i5 in late May this year, and hopes that "this series of models can write a new chapter in the electric era."
