CTOnews.com, July 24 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- analyst company Forrester recently released a report on the top ten emerging technologies in 2023. Generative and conversational AI dominates the list. Forrester also believes that generative and conversational AI can bring considerable returns to enterprises in the short term.

Generative AI generative AI will bring considerable return on investment for most enterprises in the next two to four years.

If enterprises apply AI, they also need to bear certain risks, including the credibility of content generated by AI, relevant social laws and regulations, and potential copyright problems.

But AI is still a top emerging technology worth investing in because it has a wide range of influence and can accelerate many other top emerging technologies.

Autonomous Workplace Assistant (AWA) AWA is an AI-based solution. Forrester defines AWA as software that can make decisions, act without approval, and perform services based on environment, background, user input, and learning. AWA can bring short-term benefits to most companies, and the software is now ready to take over increasingly complex but repetitive human tasks.

Conversational AI (AI-based chat tools) report points out that although AI-based chat tools are now quite common, the technology can still provide a return on investment in the short term because of the reduction in training costs. Current e-commerce, B2B sales and customer service functions will be able to benefit from conversational artificial intelligence.

Decentralized digital identity decentralized digital identity (DDID), or "digital document", which Forrester believes "will eventually replace physical identity documents", with financial services, government and education likely to benefit the most, while blockchain will also play an important role in this slow transition.

Edge Intelligence Forrester describes "edge intelligence" as "transforming massive data sets generated by computer vision and sensors into real-time action". The technology focuses on the on-board industry, and drones, self-driving trains and so on can also benefit.

Interpretable artificial intelligence (XAI) if the new AI software is to work, it must be trustworthy, which means it must be explainable and can be fully and properly regulated by the outside world.

Although XAI is not yet mature, the technology is expected to be most widely used in high-risk scenarios such as finance and healthcare in the future.

TuringBot Turing robot is a software robot driven by artificial intelligence, that is, "AI writing code". This technology can help developers build applications more easily. Within two to four years, a large portion of enterprise applications are likely to be generated by this technology.

Extended reality is a technology that overlays computer images on the user's field of vision, using augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR) and virtual reality (VR). With the application of these technologies, enterprises can communicate with employees and customers more conveniently.

Web3Forrester believes that despite Web3's promise to create a completely new online experience, it still has a long way to go. For enterprises, there are still key technical challenges around Web3, such as extension, security, identity and key management, and privacy.

Zero Trust Edge (ZTE) this solution uses zero trust access principles to securely connect and transmit digital information inside and outside remote sites, primarily using cloud-based security and network services.

The report divides the top ten technologies into three parts: short-term benefit period (less than two years), medium-term benefit period (two to five years), and long-term benefit period (more than five years).

Among them, short-term technologies include generative AI, autonomous workplace assistants and conversational AI,Forrester. It is believed that these AI technologies occupy more dominant positions in the industry and can quickly benefit enterprises. Medium-term technologies include decentralized digital identity, marginal intelligence, interpretable artificial intelligence and Turing robots. Long-term technologies include extended reality, Web3 and zero-trust edges. Forrester believes that although these technologies are not a "cash cow" at the moment, actively deploying relevant technologies will still give enterprises more room for development in the future.

Brian Hopkins, vice president of the emerging technologies portfolio at Forrester, said, "while many emerging technologies are showing great promise today, technology leaders must assess whether these technologies can bring value and whether their businesses can cope with the associated risks. This means avoiding misinformation, reducing the number of bad decisions made for fear of missing out, and reducing the focus from high-profile technologies to a small number of technologies with real potential. Companies must also ensure that the time frame for implementing these technologies is commensurate with their overall risk tolerance. "
