Overall operation

The revenue of telecom business has increased steadily, and the total volume of telecom business has continued to grow well. In the first half of the year, telecom business revenue totaled 868.8 billion yuan, an increase of 6.2 percent over the same period last year. In the first half of the year, the three basic telecommunications enterprises completed 335.6 billion yuan in mobile data traffic business revenue, an increase of 0.2% over the same period last year, accounting for 38.6% of telecom business revenue, driving an increase of 0.1% in telecom business revenue.

Revenue from emerging businesses continues to grow rapidly. The three basic telecommunications enterprises actively developed emerging businesses such as IPTV, Internet data centers, big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of things. In the first half of the year, the revenue from emerging businesses totaled 188 billion yuan, an increase of 19.2 percent over the same period last year, accounting for 21.6 percent of the telecom business revenue, driving the growth of telecom business revenue by 3.7 percentage points. Among them, the revenue of cloud computing and big data increased by 38.1% and 45.3% respectively compared with the same period last year, and the business revenue of the Internet of things increased by 25.7%.

The growth of emerging business revenue; voice business revenue fell slightly. In the first half of the year, the income of the three basic telecom companies from completing fixed voice and mobile voice services totaled 9.6 billion yuan and 57.24 billion yuan, down 7.5 percent and 2.5 percent respectively from the same period last year, accounting for 7.7 percent of the total telecom business revenue, down 0.7 percentage points from the same period last year.

The number of fixed broadband access users has increased steadily, with gigabit users accounting for more than 20%. By the end of June, the total number of fixed Internet broadband access users of the three basic telecommunications enterprises had reached 614 million, a net increase of 24.68 million over the end of last year. Among them, the number of fixed Internet broadband access users with 100Mbps and above access rates reached 579 million, accounting for 94.2 percent of the total users, an increase of 0.3 percentage points over the end of last year; and the number of fixed Internet broadband access users with 1000Mbps access rates reached 128 million, a net increase of 36.12 million over the end of last year, accounting for 20.8 percent of the total users.

The number of fixed Internet broadband access users above 100m and 1000m is steadily increasing, and the scale of 5G users is accelerating. By the end of June, the total number of mobile phone users of the three basic telecommunications enterprises had reached 1.71 billion, a net increase of 26.53 million over the end of last year. Of these, 5G mobile phone users reached 676 million, a net increase of 115 million over the end of last year, accounting for 39.5 percent of mobile phone users and an increase of 6.2 percentage points over the end of last year.

Among them, the proportion of access network optical cable, local network relay optical cable and long-distance optical cable lines was 62.6%, 35.7% and 1.8% respectively, and the proportion of local network relay optical cables increased by 0.2 percentage points compared with the same period last year.

The eastern region takes the lead in 5G construction and user penetration. By the end of June, the number of 5G base stations in the eastern, central, western and northeast regions reached 1.376 million, 648000, 729000 and 185000 respectively, accounting for 27.9%, 26.3%, 23.1% and 25% of the total number of mobile phone base stations in the region, respectively. The number of 5G mobile phone users reached 298.53 million, 158.15 million, 175.22 million and 44.27 million respectively, accounting for 40.1%, 39.7%, 38.9% and 37.1% of the total mobile phone users in the region, respectively.

The growth rate of mobile Internet access traffic is leading in the eastern region, with DOU exceeding 20GB per household month in many western provinces in June. In the first half of the year, mobile Internet access traffic in the eastern, central, western and northeast regions reached 61.91 billion GB, 32.04 billion GB, 41.05 billion GB and 7.29 billion GB respectively, an increase of 17.2%, 14.1%, 11.4% and 13.8% respectively over the same period last year. In June, the average mobile Internet access traffic (DOU) of Xizang, Qinghai, Hainan, Xinjiang, Yunnan and Ningxia exceeded 20GB per household month, and the difference between the highest and lowest DOU values of each province was 14.3GB per household month, which was the same as that in the same period last year.
