TSMC Chairman Liu Deyin previously announced that TSMC will continue to cultivate Taiwan, and that the R & D center will be officially opened in Bamboo in 2023, with 8000 TSMC R & D personnel expected to be stationed.

Liu Deyin said that TSMC plans to turn the global R & D center into their "Bell Lab" to carry out TSMC's R & D plans for the next 20 or 30 years. He pointed out that the semiconductor industry is a global competition, science and technology is changing with each passing day, and the industry has to rely on its own strength.

In addition, the 2nm wafer plant under preparation will be located in Hsinchu Baoshan and Taichung Science Park. A total of six phases of the project are under way as scheduled, while TSMC expects 2nm to be in production in 2025.

According to the industry, TSMC has started the pre-production of 2 nm trial production, which will be introduced into the AI system to save energy and accelerate the efficiency of trial production.

It is said that the company's 2nm process will adopt the new GAA architecture for the first time, and will set up a small pilot production line ahead of Bamboo at the initial stage of research and development, followed by the introduction of Zhuke Baoshan Wafer 20 Plant, which is expected to start risk trial production in 2024 and mass production of N2 process in 2025.

In addition, the N2P and N2X of the 2nm family are scheduled to be launched in 2026. It is estimated that in the future, including Apple and Nvidia, will be the first batch of customers of TSMC's 2nm process.

TSMC's global R & D center, located in Baoshan, Zhuke, covers an area of about 18.7 hectares after public facilities, and construction began in mid-2020. It was originally planned to be completed in 2021, but it was delayed until this year for a variety of reasons.

This R & D center is a special factory-office building in the TSMC fab group. The R & D unit will have its own fab, which is expected to accommodate more than 8000 R & D personnel. At present, about 2000 people are stationed, and the follow-up R & D units will be relocated one after another.
