CTOnews.com, July 23 (Xinhua)-- Apple plans to release a new Mac computer with an M3 chip in October, but the Mac mini and high-end MacBook Pro models are not on the list, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.

Gurman said in the latest "Power On" newsletter that Apple is developing an M3 version of the Mac mini, but Apple is in no hurry to launch the product and may not be available until the end of next year or later. Similarly, the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will not be launched with M3 chips in October, but will follow with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, which are expected to be released by mid-2024 at the latest.

Gurman pointed out that the M2 version of the Mac mini was released more than two years after the M1 version, indicating that Apple does not believe that the Mac mini is a device that needs to be updated every year. By contrast, the high-end MacBook Pro, as a more popular device, has an update cycle of about every four to five quarters.

CTOnews.com noted that Gurman said last week that the first Mac with M3 chips could be launched as early as October, and that the first models with M3 chips could be 13-inch MacBook Pro, 13-inch MacBook Air and 24-inch iMac. It is widely expected that compared with the 5nm-based M2 chips in existing equipment, the M3 chips will be manufactured using TSMC's 3nm process, thus significantly improving performance and energy efficiency.
