CTOnews.com, July 22 (Xinhua) BMW has been warming up the electric 5-series sedan for the past six years, and now the first electric i5 sedan is officially off the line.

Chipze, BMW's chief executive, showed off the new electric i5 model at its annual meeting in March and said it created a "unique sales growth point" for the company.

BMW said that the i5 series, between the 3 series and 7 series, as the company's second best-selling model (after the 3 series), played an important role in the development of BMW.

BMW officially launched the electric version of the i5 in late May and hopes to write a new chapter in the electric era.

The electric BMW 5-Series is equipped with the latest OS 8.5 system, which allows owners to play video games while charging.

CTOnews.com note: BMW's largest production plant in Europe in Dingolfen, Germany, has begun to produce electric i5 models, which are overseen by BMW management board member Milan Nedeljkovi coach.

The i5 is the third all-electric model produced by the BMW factory, which has already produced the BMW iX and the BMW i7. BMW expects its share of electric vehicle production to expand to more than 40% next year.

BMW said the Dingolfen plant took 280000 cars off the line last year and is expected to far exceed 300000 this year, along with the production of i5 models.
