Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, July 22 (Xinhua)-- thanks to the tireless efforts of David Turner and Mozilla engineers, the upcoming Firefox 116web browser will add hardware to accelerate video decoding for Raspberry Pie 4.
David Turner has been implementing hardware-accelerated H.264 video decoding for the AArch 64 (ARM 64) hardware architecture on the Linux platform for the past few months.
Although Raspberry pie 4 has a hardware video accelerator, Firefox browsers still rely on software decoding when playing videos on raspberry pie.
Firefox uses video acceleration API (VA-API) through FFmpeg to provide hardware acceleration for video playback on AMD, Intel, or NVIDIA systems at 64-bit Linux desktop device vendors.
The upcoming version of Firefox 116 will clearly use V4 L2-M2M (Video 4Linux / Memory-to-Memory) API for hardware-accelerated video decoding in the Linux kernel.
CTOnews.com Note: Mozilla plans to release a stable version of Firefox 116on August 1, which will allow hardware decoding of H.264 video played by AArch 64 devices such as Raspberry Pie 4.
