CTOnews.com, July 21 (Xinhua) Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 were launched in 1977 with the initial goal of catching up with the planetary window and exploring the planets in the solar system with the help of the gravitational slingshot effect. After the completion of the mission, the two probes changed their exploration mission to "measure solar wind particles" and flew out of the solar system and into interstellar space in 2012 and 2018 respectively.

On the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 probes, in addition to scientific instruments for observing planets in the solar system, each carries a "golden record" to bring Earth's greetings to outer space and possible "aliens."

A few days ago, the "Golden album" master tape carried on the probe, produced by Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan, will be auctioned at Sotheby's.

According to the ▲ Picture Source Ovserver website, the album contains voices from the earth, greetings from 59 different languages and 27 pieces of music, which are not included in many familiar classics, but only obscure ones that only ethnomusicologists know, so they have caused some controversy.

In addition, there are 115 images on the record. Some of the images are charts confirming that the playback device is working properly, instructions on how to find the earth, mathematical formulas, and explanations of the earth's biochemistry. This is followed by scenes of life on Earth, including architecture, human diet, sporting events, dance, technology, agriculture and wildlife.

The album cover also contains ultra-pure samples of the radioisotope uranium-238, which will provide the probe with a built-in clock showing how long Voyager has been in space. There is also a hand-carved inscription that reads: "to the creator of music-all worlds, all time".

Cassandra Hatton, global director of Sotheby's Department of Science and popular Culture, said: "the Voyager mission is one of the greatest explorations in history, and the production of golden records reflects people's optimism and humility in the face of the unknown deep space of the universe. Under the leadership of Ann Drouin and Carl Sagan, the production of gold records is a difficult task, and now we are deeply honored to be able to auction such an original master tape.

After inquiry, CTOnews.com learned that the auction of gold recording master tape will continue until July 27, 2023, and foreign media Observer believes that the auction price is expected to be more than 600000 US dollars (about 4.3037 million yuan).
