The Ubuntu development team said that in order to improve quality and reduce the number of fonts installed in the Ubuntu standard, the Noto font package is planned to be installed by default.
The font package contains sans-serif and serif fonts, covering most Latin and non-Latin characters.
The current version of Ubuntu defaults to a pre-installed DejaVu font package that covers non-Latin characters.
