In May, I took an official sample picture of Nikon Z8. In this shot, I took my most satisfactory star portrait. It was also the first time to shoot a star portrait with central focus, which made Nikon's official headlines. In this tutorial, I will share with you the ideas and techniques of shooting.

There are three difficult problems in the mid-focal star portrait.
1. If you shoot the starry sky with medium focus, it is easy to drag the orbit, and accelerating the shutter will lead to excessive photosensitivity.
2. The dim portrait makes up the light and the picture quality.
3. The medium focus can not make the scene and the stars clear at the same time, so the depth of field needs to be synthesized.
First of all, the problem one, how to solve the problem of how to drag the track in the medium coke actually has the greatest impact on the shooting is 85mm f1.2. Although other lenses and fuselages are of good quality, they are no substitute for the role of 1.2's ultra-large aperture in dim light.
Because the central focus can take pictures of parts that cannot be reached at a wide angle, this silver center part gives people a greater sense of perspective impact and substitution. However, the longer the focal length, the easier it is for the stars to drag the orbit, so the shutter speed must be within a few seconds, thus shortening the exposure time will require a significant increase in sensitivity.
So if you want to avoid the picture quality problems caused by increased sensitivity, you need to use a very large aperture of 1.2, and the sensitivity can be controlled at about 2000 when the shutter speed is a few seconds. (of course, it's OK to use the equator, but the operation will be more complicated. I didn't bring the equator this time.)
Then, when talking about the problem of the way to fill the light in the portrait, we should first start with the choice of costume props. The clothing is a white skirt with a sling, deliberately exposing part of the skin of the shoulders and arms. If it is a long-sleeved dress, it will be made white and lack of layers. But if the skin is exposed, the control of skin color is also a difficult problem.
I was asked why I wear a hat at night in order to separate my head from the night sky. If I have black hair, it's easy to mix with the night sky.
As for the way of replenishing light, I still integrate the main light source into the picture to connect the character with the light source.
In the part of portrait and light source, I use exposure synthesis, because in a pure black environment, the electronic horse lantern will be too bright, so the same composition, a normal exposure to the horse lantern, and then a normal exposure to the character.
But when shooting the normal exposure of the character, I also used an auxiliary light source, because a horse lantern will make the character have a very obvious shadow area, and the skin color is also more serious, so I use the headlamp to adjust to the lowest brightness and sweep the character. A total of 8 seconds exposure, headlights sweep back and forth for 4 seconds to make up some uniform cold light to the skin color.
Finally, question 3. Depth-of-field synthesis because the foreground will be closer to you when shooting in mid-focus, and the stars cannot focus clearly at the same time, so depth-of-field synthesis is needed. When shooting the characters, in fact, the shooting of the characters has been completed, so the next only need to focus on the stars, take a picture of the stars.
Post-synthesis, there will be a difficulty, that is, the halo of horse lantern is difficult to be synthesized by matting, so I only dig out the outline of horse lantern, halo to carry out post-production, that is, ctrl shift N new blank layer, and then absorb the light color, appropriate smear.
Another technique is the character posture. When shooting the characters, although they have filled up the light, we still try to extend the exposure time and make the sensitivity lower, so we need to find a position that is convenient for the model to keep for a long time, so I asked the model to sit down. and instead of holding the lantern in hand, put it on the ground so that the character can stay still for 8 to 10 seconds. If it is a portable lantern, there must be a slight shake.

This is the M8 Lagoon Nebula in the Milky way. At that time, I was shooting the part of the Galactic Center with a lens of 851.2. To my surprise, without an equator, I actually photographed the nebula, which can only be attributed to the image quality of 1.2 apertures and the cutting effect under high pixels.
