CTOnews.com, July 21, according to the latest list published by the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office (USPTO), Apple has obtained an AirPods-related design patent to monitor biological signals such as electroencephalogram (EEG), electromyography (EMG) and electrooculogram (EOG).

CTOnews.com cites Apple's patent report that the shell and headphone end of the AirPods can be equipped with multiple active electrodes and reference electrodes that can be configured to measure the biological signals and electrical activity of the wearer's brain.

Apple will say that in order to monitor EEG brain activity more accurately, it needs to be tailored to the wearer's ear shape to ensure that the sensor fits better with the wearer's ear canal and that the monitoring data are accurate.

Apple also said in the patent that it can monitor other biological signals such as electromyography (EMG), electrooculogram (EOG), electrocardiogram (ECG), skin electrical response (GSR), blood volume pulse (BVP) and so on through AirPods.
