Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, July 20, the latest issue of the journal Nature published a paper entitled "long-period Radio transient activity that has been active for 30 years." The paper points out that since at least 1988, a mysterious outer space source has been sending radio waves to Earth regularly at a frequency of 22 minutes, with an error of only 1/10 milliseconds.
The ▲ image source Pexels paper points out that researchers have not been able to determine the source of these mysterious signals because their radio properties do not conform to any known theories and models in the world.
At first, many people thought that the waves came from pulsars, which emitted radio explosions as they rotated, flickering and dimming like lighthouse beams. However, according to the existing theory, the speed of the pulsar must exceed a certain degree in order to be received by the earth, while the speed of the target star is about 1000 times slower, contrary to expectations.
Since then, some scholars have thought that the target star may be a highly magnetized white dwarf star or magnetar, which is a neutron star with an incredibly strong magnetic field. However, in the existing theory, it is impossible for such stars to send such regular signals for 35 years, and their radio explosions can only be observed in a few months to years.
Scientists also found that although these signals have been found on Earth for more than 30 years, data compilers have not noticed their existence before.
Victoria M. Victoria M Kaspi, a professor of physics at McGill University in Canada, wrote in an accompanying article: "only time will tell us what else is hidden in these data and what observations across many astronomical time scales will reveal."
