CTOnews.com, July 20 / PRNewswire-Asianet /-- Microsoft last week introduced a new default font for Office, Aptos, which plans to replace the 15-year-old Calibri.

Microsoft has to test the new fonts before opening them to all Office users, so it recently issued an invitation to Microsoft 365Insider members to participate in testing Aptos.

Microsoft launched the Office default font transformation program in 2021, hoping to replace the outdated Calibri as the default font, and proposed five candidate fonts: Bierstadt, Grandview, Seaford, Skeena and Tenorit.

Most users chose Bierstadt, and Microsoft renamed it Aptos.

Aptos is available in six derivative versions: bold, regular, semi-bold, bold, extra-bold and black, all of which support italics.

Although Office applications now use Aptos by default, customers can still access Calibri in the font drop-down menu.

Microsoft's latest internal update not only introduces new fonts, but also makes other appearance changes, including new default styles, as well as improved readability, navigation bar, and "more professional" look.

Microsoft has also modified the default colors for backgrounds, highlights, and hyperlinks. Microsoft says it has delved into popular palettes and design trends to create a stable set of colors to provide a good look in all Office applications and to help users create more accessible content.

Finally, Microsoft has increased the default contour weights to keep them consistent with shapes and lines and to provide better contrast.

Microsoft has invited Microsoft 365 Insider members of the following platforms to participate in the test, and CTOnews.com attached a list as follows:

Windows (version 2308, build 16701.20000)

MacOS (version 16.76, build 23070400)

Android (version 16.0.16701.20000)
