CTOnews.com, July 19 (CTOnews.com)-the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said on Wednesday that it had provisionally approved Broadcom's $69 billion acquisition of VMware, saying the deal would not weaken competition for the supply of key computer server products.

In March, CMA expressed concern that the transaction might make servers more expensive, so it launched an in-depth investigation.

"after reviewing evidence gathered from Broadcom, VMware and other interested parties, an independent CMA panel temporarily found that the deal would not significantly reduce competition for the supply of server hardware components in the UK," the regulator said.

CMA said it would solicit comments on its preliminary comments and then release its final report by September 12.

CTOnews.com noted that the European Union also approved the deal a week ago.
