The Japanese government has regarded ensuring a stable supply of semiconductors as an important economic security issue. In addition to providing subsidies of about 476 billion yen (CTOnews.com Note: about 24.657 billion yuan currently) to the first Japanese plant that produces logic semiconductors in TSMC, it also provides high subsidies to Japanese factories controlled by Meguiar and Meixia to support the development of semiconductor-related industries in Japan.

Liu Deyin, chairman of TSMC, said in June that TSMC was continuing discussions with the Japanese government on subsidies for building a second plant, which could be located near Kumamoto's first factory.
