CTOnews.com, July 19 (Xinhua)-- India's Tata is expected to announce its decision to build a plant in the UK on Wednesday, according to Bloomberg. A government spokesman declined to comment on ongoing business negotiations, while Tata declined to comment on the report.

It is said that Tata has been looking for sites between Southwestern Somerset and Spain to build factories to supply batteries for electric Jaguar and Land Rover models.

According to BBC, the government will provide hundreds of millions of pounds worth of subsidies to Tata. "Jaguar Land Rover's decision to invest in battery production in the UK is very welcome. However, we will consider the subsidy scheme needed to ensure this decision." Said Darren Jones, chairman of the parliamentary business committee.

For months, there has been speculation about where Tata, a conglomerate with interests in software, steel, cars and airlines, will build the plant.

The factory will be a milestone for the UK as it tries to catch up with countries and regions around the world in the field of electric vehicles, and the battery factory is crucial for carmakers that rely on heavy batteries.

But Britain does not have that much money. With regard to the hundreds of billions of dollars in subsidies promised by the US inflation reduction Act to green industries, British Finance Secretary Jeremy Hunt said the government did not have a large amount of money for similar measures.

It is said that batteries made in the UK will also help British carmakers abide by the rules of post-Brexit trade. The rule requires them to buy more electric car parts locally from 2024 to avoid imposing tariffs on trade between the UK and the EU.

The government had previously said it was in talks with the European Union to relax the rules after car giant Stellantis warned that it would be forced to close factories and lose thousands of jobs if it faced tariffs.

The British government has set a series of net zero targets to boost economic growth, including a ban on the sale of new gasoline and diesel cars from 2030.
