On the morning of July 19, Beijing time, consulting giant McKinsey said it had reached a partnership with artificial intelligence startup Cohere to provide artificial intelligence solutions to its enterprise clients.

This is the first time the company has announced a partnership with a large language model provider. McKinsey, along with other global consulting firms, has joined the global artificial intelligence craze triggered by ChatGPT.

"We note that customers are thinking about costs, intellectual property protection and consumer privacy, as well as how to train the model," said Ben Ellencweig, a senior partner at McKinsey. "We think Cohere is one of the good solutions."

McKinsey said it was working with Cohere to build customized solutions to help customers increase customer engagement and workflow automation. The company also said it was considering using Cohere to improve internal productivity and help McKinsey's knowledge management system.

The two companies said they had jointly provided services to companies in everything from financial services to retail, but did not disclose the names of the companies.

Cohere was founded by Google's former top artificial intelligence researchers. The company positions itself as a neutral provider, providing enterprise customers with a model that does not rely on cloud providers such as Microsoft. Cohere competes with OpenAI and focuses on providing generative artificial intelligence solutions for enterprises.

Last month, Cohere raised $270 million from investors including Nvidia, Oracle and Salesforce Ventures, valuing it at $2.2 billion.

Cohere also announced a partnership with Oracle, which will embed Cohere's generative artificial intelligence technology into its products.

Martin Kon, president of Cohere, said: "We believe that the best way for this technology to really influence the world will be through really strong and complementary partners such as McKinsey. So this is largely part of our company's strategy."

A number of consulting companies have reached partnerships with artificial intelligence companies and announced investments in the field of artificial intelligence. Accenture announced a $3 billion investment in artificial intelligence. PricewaterhouseCoopers said in April that it would invest $1 billion in artificial intelligence over the next three years.

In addition, Bain and Company, the world's leading management consulting firm, has partnered with OpenAI and Deloitte has announced a partnership with chipmaker Nvidia.
