Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens OC_Formula, Wu Yanzu in South China, and Xiqiao for the delivery of clues about the past! CTOnews.com, July 19 (Xinhua)-- Intel has decided to change its strategy for the NUC (Next Unit of Compute, next-generation computing unit) business, stopping direct investment and choosing partners to continue to drive NUC innovation and growth.
Intel today announced a NUC cooperation agreement with Asustek: Asustek will receive a non-exclusive license for Intel NUC system product line design, enabling it to manufacture and sell NUC system products from generation 10 to generation 13 and continue to develop future products.
"our NUC system product team offers unique products that stimulate innovation in the ultra-small PC market. As we adjust our strategy to enable ecosystem partners to continue NUC system product innovation and growth, our top priority is to ensure a smooth transition for our customers and partners. I look forward to Asustek to continue to provide excellent products and support our NUC system customers."
-Sam Gao (Intel Vice President and General Manager of Intel client platform Solutions)
Intel did not disclose details of the deal, but Asustek looks set to receive some special treatment compared with other NUC system providers that make Mini PC products.
Foreign media believe that Asustek was chosen because they have a deep product line in this field (such as PN, PB and PL series. Of course, it remains to be seen whether Intel will transfer its existing NUC product line to Asustek and let them market as they see fit.
It is reported that Asustek will create a new independent business unit, called "Asustek NUC BU", which is not only responsible for providing current and next-generation NUC PC, but also needs to enable Asustek to provide products and support to existing Intel NUC customers, which means that existing products will not be abandoned.
Intel's NUC is usually bare-metal systems, that is, they don't have the necessary components such as memory, storage, and operating systems. Users can customize NUC by adding their favorite components to meet their specific needs. NUC kits typically include motherboards, CPU, and integrated graphics cards. CTOnews.com noted that Intel's recent releases include NUC 13 Rugged "Bravo Canyon", commercial NUC 13 PRO "Arena Canyon" and NUC 13 Extreme "Raptor Canyon", which is more like a full game PC than a miniaturized design.
Some analysts believe that Intel's abandonment of NUC business may be related to the competitive pressure it faces in the processor market. As companies such as AMD and Apple introduce more advanced and efficient chips, Intel may need to refocus its strategy to maintain its leading position in computing.
