CTOnews.com, July 19 (Xinhua) Virgin Galactic will launch its second commercial space mission next month, sending six private astronauts into suborbit.

The flight, known as Galactic 02, will take off from the US spaceport in New Mexico on August 10 local time.

It is said that Galactic 02 will set a precedent and become the first mission to send Olympians and people from the Caribbean into space. In addition, the ride group also includes a mother and daughter, which is also the first example of a space flight.

The former Olympian is 80-year-old British adventurer Jon Goodwin (Jon Goodwin), who competed in canoeing at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Virgin Galactic said Goodwin, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, will become the second patient of his kind to go into space.

"when I was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2014, I was determined not to let it get in the way of a full life," Goodwin said. "now it's amazing for me to go into space with Parkinson's. I hope this will inspire all people in trouble and show them that the challenge does not have to restrain or prevent them from pursuing their dreams."

The mother and daughter are from the Caribbean island nation of Antigua and Barbuda. They won seats in the 2021 raffle organized by Virgin Galaxy and charity fundraising platform Omaze. (the funds raised will be donated to the non-profit Human Space Foundation.)

"when I was two years old, I just looked up at the sky and thought, 'how can I go there?' but as a person from the Caribbean, I didn't think such a thing was possible," Sf said. "in fact, I was able to stand here and become the first person to go to space from Antigua, which shows that space is becoming more and more accessible."

Meyers, 18, will be the second person to go into space at the age of 18. According to Virgin Galactic. The youngest is Oliver Damon (Oliver Daemen), who was only 18 years old when he boarded the Blue Origin New Shepard Orbiter in July 2021.

Three other passengers will also go into space aboard the Galactic 02 spacecraft, but they are all employees of Virgin Galactic.

The company's chief astronaut coach, Beth Moses (Beth Moses), will sit in the cabin of the VSS Unity space shuttle with Goodwin, Sf and Meyers, while C.J. Sturckow and Kelly Latimer serve as commanders and pilots respectively.

Virgin Galactic said that on the Galactic 02, Nicola Pecile would be the commander, while Mike Masucci would be in charge of flying the ship.

The company has previously said it has a backlog of about 800 customers, charging up to $250000-$450000 per seat (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 1.793 million-3.226 million yuan), and expects eventually to build a large enough fleet of space aircraft to serve more than one flight a day.

Virgin Galactic's first commercial space flight ended on June 29, returned safely after nearly 14 minutes of autonomous flight, and successfully landed on the runway of the US spaceport. According to reports, the Virgin Galactic VSS Unity suborbital space aircraft's first commercial manned mission Galactic 01 has a maximum flight speed of Mach 2.88 and a maximum altitude of 85079 meters.
