CTOnews.com July 18 news, July 18, BMW Group officially opened a new Shanghai R & D center. Officials said the opening of the centre marked that BMW had established the largest and most complete research and development system outside its headquarters in Germany.

At present, BMW has set up R & D facilities in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Shenyang, respectively, and officials say it has "achieved the full-process automobile R & D function and full-stack intelligent network-connected automotive software development capability in China".

Wei Bofan, director of research and development at BMW Group, said the opening of the new R & D center and the upgrading of BMW's research and development in China would "enhance our strength". BMW, which now has more than 3200 designers, engineers, new energy vehicles and software experts, will "work closely with Chinese technology partners, start-ups, local partners and academia to create cutting-edge innovative technologies".

At the same time, he also said that "China is the future, and China will play a more critical role in BMW's global R & D network."

In addition, China is the only country outside BMW's headquarters in Germany to set up a Skylab human-computer interaction design team and a Usability Lab research laboratory (CTOnews.com note: user research). According to the person in charge of the BMW Shanghai R & D Center, the center will have "all core design functions" covering user experience design, visual design, user research and human-computer interaction development.
