Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, July 18 (Xinhua) A huge metal cylinder has appeared on a remote beach in Western Australia famous for its rock lobsters and wildflowers, causing local people's curiosity and speculation. Where on earth did this column come from? Is it the wreckage of the plane or the parts of the spaceship? Police and experts are investigating, but no definite answer has been given yet.
The object was found on a beach near Greenhead on Sunday and reported to the police, according to local media reports. The mysterious metal cylinder is more than two meters high and has cables hanging from the top. Greenhead is a coastal town with a population of less than 300 and 250 kilometers north of Perth. It is famous for fishing and sea lions.
CTOnews.com noted that Western Australian police said in a statement on Monday night that after analysis by the state fire and emergency services and chemical and forensic science investigators, the object was safe and did not pose a danger to the public, but the police still asked the public to stay away from the object. Police said the object would not be removed until the source of the object was formally determined.
Before the police arrived at the scene, many locals had gathered around the mysterious object on Sunday night. It is reported that a local couple found the object floating on the water and dragged it out of the water with their four-wheel drive car.
Western Australian police said in a statement earlier Monday that they were protecting the object to preserve possible evidence and to facilitate experts' inspection of the cylinder. At the same time, state and federal agencies are also investigating. Some netizens speculated that the object may have something to do with Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which disappeared in 2014 while flying over the southern Indian Ocean. But police said their preliminary investigation showed that the object did not come from a commercial aircraft.
The Australian Space Agency said in a statement on Twitter on Monday that the object "may come from a foreign space launcher." The agency said it was communicating with space agencies in other countries for more information. "as the source of the object is not clear, the community should avoid touching or trying to move the object." The agency said.
