CTOnews.com, July 18 (Xinhua)-- following the debut of the new Mercedes GLC and GLC Coupe, the German carmaker today launched AMG versions of these two SUV models. The new car has a new design, improved interiors and an upgraded light hybrid system.

The new Mercedes-AMG GLC, which will be available in the coming months, is positioned higher than GLC Coup é, which will start taking orders in the UK this month.

The entry-level Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic uses 4Matic all-wheel drive and has a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine and 14bhp motor, coupled with a nine-speed multi-clutch gearbox to generate the power of 415bhp at 6750rpm.

Like other AMG models such as the E63, the so-called Speedshift MCT gearbox uses a wet start clutch (instead of a torque converter), providing both smoother low-speed operation and a better full throttle response experience.

In addition, GLC 43 uses rear wheel steering and standard air suspension, which is also part of the AMG Ride Control system.

It is worth mentioning that the GLC63 S E Performance does not provide a V8 engine, but uses a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine to work with a 201hp rear motor, which brings 671 horsepower and 752lb-ft of torque.

It is reported that the turbocharged engine alone can generate 469 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful four-cylinder engine in the world.

It is worth mentioning that the GLC63 S E Performance accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, but the top speed is limited to 171mph (CTOnews.com Note: about 275.2 km / h).

Like the GLC43, the 63 uses the same nine-speed multi-clutch gearbox and 4Matic all-wheel drive system, but the 4Maticplus system of the 63 is completely variable, which means it can transfer 100% of its power to the rear wheels.

Mercedes said that due to the upgrade of its electrification system, the model has improved energy efficiency, charging power 3.8kW, and the model can travel 7.5miles on electricity alone.

The two new cars are also equipped with AMG Dynamics to improve electronic stability and steering response for better cornering ability, and standard AMG driving control system, sports braking system, active rear steering system and sound enhanced AMG exhaust system to improve comfort on all roads.

In terms of interior, Mercedes-AMG uses the same MBUX system as the basic GLC, but has the unique functions of AMG, and the dashboard, central display and optional heads-up display all have special AMG graphics, and the infotainment system is embedded with AMG Track Pace.

The new car also retains the interior theme of AMG GLC, which is equipped with MB-tex and ultra-fine fiber cabins, as well as Nappa leather with the AMG embossed logo, while sporty buyers can also choose high-performance seats.

Pricing for the new Mercedes-AMG GLC has not yet been announced. For reference, the previous top model starts at 75725 pounds (currently about 709000 yuan), with a slight premium expected for new cars.
