CTOnews.com July 18 news, Apple approved a new motion on Monday, can set aside the U.S. Court of Appeals "anti-steering" policy charges, do not have to fulfill the 90-day adjustment App Store, let developers guide customers to pay outside the App Store.

Apple's motion was granted Monday on the grounds that it wanted the U.S. Supreme Court to have more time to hear the case and should set aside a previous U.S. appeals court ruling.

Apple and Epic Games have been fighting over the App Store since 2020.

In 2021, the judge in charge of the case largely sided with Apple. She argued that Apple's "App Store" rules requiring developers to use the in-app purchase system did not violate antitrust laws, but some of the rulings did require Apple to update its "restricted diversion" rules.

CTOnews.com Note: This rule allows developers to direct users to non-App Store payment methods, using metadata, buttons, links, and other actions to complete payments, directing customers to purchase mechanisms outside the App Store, paving the way for developers to implement alternative payment methods.

Apple and Epic Games have unanimously asked the U.S. Court of Appeals to reconsider its April ruling in the antitrust case, and lawyers for both companies have said the panel should reopen the case or the court should convene a "full bench" as an 11-judge panel to reconsider the dispute.

It is reported that Epic Games began in 2020, with the "Fortress Night" game as the trigger, and Apple over the App Store rules dispute, opened a lengthy legal lawsuit.

The U.S. court announced its findings in 2021, finding that Apple did not violate antitrust laws and was not a monopolist. Epic Games refused to accept this and chose to appeal immediately, saying that the original court "came up with the wrong answer" and "made a number of legal errors."
