CTOnews.com, July 17 (Xinhua)-- according to Bloomberg, the German Metal Industry Union (IGMetall) said Tesla had laid off hundreds of contract and temporary workers at his German factory near Berlin.

Last month, nearly 200 regular employees at the Tesla Greenhead plant were fired or signed exit agreements, as well as hundreds of temporary workers, the union said in an emailed statement.

CTOnews.com reported earlier this month that the Environment Ministry of Brandenburg in Germany announced that Tesla was planning to expand the Berlin super factory with the goal of doubling its annual production capacity to 1 million vehicles. At present, the company has launched the public consultation required for the approval process.

Tesla has been making electric cars at the Glenn Hyde superfactory near Berlin since March last year. The annual production capacity of the first phase is only 500000 vehicles, and the target has not yet been achieved.

At present, Tesla's Berlin factory has about 10000 employees. Since its opening in March 2022, the plant's capacity has been increasing, with weekly production reaching 5000 vehicles in March 2023, which can be inferred to reach more than 250000 vehicles a year.
