The news came from Twitter user @RGcloudS, who also revealed that Samsung's Galaxy S24 + and S24 Ultra will also use stacked battery technology.

Stacked battery cells employ a manufacturing technique called lamination, in which battery elements and separators are folded into zigzag layers rather than rolled up. Since less space is wasted within the packaging unit, more active substances can be contained, thereby increasing the total capacity. This enables stacked batteries to have higher energy densities than wound batteries. Heat can also be distributed more evenly within the cell rather than concentrated in one area, thereby extending battery life.

Stacked batteries have been widely used in the field of electric vehicles due to their ability to provide high power output and fast charging, as well as superior energy density. They are also used in medical equipment, aerospace and renewable energy storage.

In addition, the Twitter user also said that he found signs that Apple was exploring 40W wired charging and 20W MagSafe wireless charging, but was not sure if this was related to the iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 series. Currently, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a maximum wired charging speed of 29W, while MagSafe can only reach 15W.
