Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, July 17 (Xinhua) Volkswagen commercial vehicles are developing self-driving cars for mobile and transportation services, and have made great progress.
At present, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz AD self-driving car is ready for mass production and will be tested for the first time on the road in the coming weeks, when it will carry decision-makers from the political, public and commercial fields, as well as media representatives, so that they can understand the vehicle's control ability.
In addition, Volkswagen also launched an autopilot test program in Austin, Texas. According to reports, the development process of the AD model will focus on the commercial use of the model in urban centers in Europe and North America, including sharing travel plans and transportation services.
"expanding our self-driving car program to North America is the next step in our global strategic roadmap and the result of a long-term investment," said Christian Sanger, a member of the management committee responsible for self-driving development of Volkswagen commercial vehicles. "this will help us test, verify and improve our technology on roads in the United States." The aim is to expand Volkswagen's range of commercialized transport services and a diversified portfolio of mobile products.
CTOnews.com previously reported that Volkswagen's self-driving ID Buzz was originally intended to use Argo AI's technology, but now the company is working with its partner Mobileye to develop in-house hardware and software.
The plan is to test the vehicles in Austin and four other US cities over the next three years, launch an unmanned taxi service in 2026, and launch a three-seat ID Buzz for the US market in 2024.
According to the SAE standard, the series of self-driving models are equipped with cameras, radar and lidar technology.
During the test phase, all vehicles will be equipped with human safety guards and can accommodate four passengers, and once they are ready for series production, they can be produced in large quantities to meet growing mobile and transport needs.
