CTOnews.com, July 17 (Reuters)-Russian scientists said they expected a strong solar flare on Monday, which could interfere with shortwave communications.

The Fedorov Institute of Applied Geophysics in Moscow said X flares, including proton flares, could affect the Earth's magnetic field and have an even worse impact on shortwave radios.

CTOnews.com note: class X flares are the largest explosions in the solar system and can produce persistent radiation storms. Proton flares are storms of solar high-energy particles, which are mainly composed of protons. Solar flares occur when the strong magnetic fields inside and around the sun are reconnected.

Geomagnetic storms triggered by massive solar radiation destroyed 40 newly launched SpaceX satellites in 2022, according to Reuters. The Fedorov Institute observed three solar flares on Sunday, one of which lasted for 14 minutes and radio communications were interrupted.
