According to data.ai data, the number of weekly active users of Threads, a Twitter competition launched by Instagram7 on July 6, has reached 1/5 of Twitter's global data, 86 times that of Truth Social, Twitter's biggest competitor in the United States, Beijing time.

According to information released late last week by Sensor Tower, an application intelligence company, the number of daily active users of Threads fell by about 20 per cent on Tuesday and Wednesday compared with the previous Saturday. The time users spend on the service has also fallen by 50%, from 20 minutes to 10 minutes.

But data.ai points out that Threads's growth momentum is far from over. The app was launched more than 150 million times in six days, while it took 33 days for Niantic's Pokemon to reach this level. The latter, which was released in July 2016, has previously held the record of the fastest download speed at the beginning of its release.

Data.ai also shared other insights about Threads users. They found that the service attracted about 93 million active users around the world in the week of its launch, and then officially announced that it had 100 million registered users on July 10.

The company also found that the region with the largest number of Threads downloads was not the US, but India, which accounted for 33 per cent of the world. This was followed by Brazil (22 per cent), the United States (16 per cent), Mexico (8 per cent) and Japan (5 per cent). But Threads cannot be used in Europe because of regulatory hurdles related to privacy and data collection, and Meta has recently even begun to prevent EU users from using the service through virtual networks.

A few days ago, Threads released its first major update since its launch and began to support iOS 17, along with some other adjustments. However, there should be more upgrades to the app in the future, such as following the flow of information, editing buttons, multi-account support and integrating ActivityPub. ActivityPub is a protocol adopted by Mastodon, Twitter's decentralized competitor.
