Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, July 15 (Xinhua)-- A team of researchers from Carnegie Mellon University recently invented a new tracking technology that can track human movements across the wall in real time using radio signals from a home Wi-Fi router without any cameras or expensive lidar hardware.
The study has not been peer-reviewed and has been published on the preprint server ArXiv [direct PDF download address].
The authors of the study are as follows: CTOnews.com translation.
We believe that in some cases, Wi-Fi signals can replace RGB images to perceive human beings.
For Wi-Fi-based solutions, lights and shades have little impact, and the required equipment can be purchased at a reasonable price.
Most households in developed countries are equipped with Wi-Fi, which can be extended to monitor the health of the elderly or simply identify suspicious behavior at home.
The team mainly used DensePose, a system used to map all the pixels on the human surface in photos, developed by researchers at the Facebook artificial Intelligence Lab and the London team.
DensePose can identify more than 20 key body parts, including joints and arms, head and torso, and can describe the posture of the human body.
By combining all these data with the depth neural network, and mapping the phase and amplitude of the WiFi signals sent and received by the router to the coordinates of the human body, the research team finally successfully restored the trajectory of the human body across the wall.
The team used three $30 Wi-Fi routers and three receivers to reflect WiFi signals around the walls of the room to eliminate static objects and focus on signals reflected from moving objects to reconstruct people's posture in radar-like images.
This method enables standard WiFi routers to penetrate opaque obstacles such as plasterboard, wood walls, and even concrete walls.
