CTOnews.com, July 13 (Xinhua)-- Virgin Galactic said today that the space tourism startup will launch its second commercial flight next month, following its successful first flight in June.

Founded by British billionaire Richard Branson, Virgin Galactic is one of the few space companies in the United States to meet the needs of commercial space operations and space travel, along with Blue Origin of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and SpaceX of Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Virgin Galactic said details of the crew, pilots and flight lists will be released during the launch window on Aug. 10.

The company has previously said it has a backlog of about 800 customers, charging up to $250000-$450000 per seat (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 1.793 million-3.226 million yuan), and expects eventually to build a large enough fleet of space aircraft to serve more than one flight a day.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Virgin Galactic's first commercial space flight ended on June 29, returned safely after nearly 14 minutes of autonomous flight, and successfully landed on the runway of the US spaceport. According to reports, the Virgin Galactic VSS Unity suborbital space aircraft's first commercial manned mission Galactic 01 has a maximum flight speed of Mach 2.88 and a maximum altitude of 85079 meters.

Virgin Galactic shares rose about 3 per cent in pre-market trading on the news and are up 11 per cent so far this year.
