CTOnews.com, July 13, according to preliminary statistics released by TrendFocus, global hard disk shipments in the second quarter of 2023 were between 30.8 million and 32.2 million, down 20.2 percent from 38.6 million in the same period last year, while hard disk shipments fell 33.5 percent in the first quarter compared with the same period last year.

Aaron Rakers, an analyst at Wells Fargo, said that 9.5 million Nearline (near-line) hard drives were shipped globally in the second quarter of 2023, with a total capacity of about 136 EB, down 45 per cent from last year.

Shipments of non-Nearline hard drives in the second quarter were about 22 million, down from 22.1 million in the first quarter and down 17 percent from 26.2 million in the second quarter of last year.

According to Reikers, Seagate accounted for 44.5% of total hard drive shipments in the quarter, Western Digital 38% and Toshiba 17.5%. The market share of the first two increased slightly, while the share of the latter declined.
