Oracle's Oracle Linux, which is derived from RHEL, also took a stand on the policy a few days ago. Oracle said in a press release that it would continue to develop Oracle Linux to make it compatible with RHEL and provide free binaries and source code for the release, but CTOnews.com noted that Oracle did not mention what steps it would take to obtain the source code for future versions of RHEL.

Oracle also said in its announcement that it welcomes any distributions derived from Oracle Linux, whether community or commercial, and they are happy to work with the developers of these distributions to simplify the process, jointly build the Oracle Linux ecology, and ensure that Oracle software products are certified on these distributions.

Oracle attributed this mainly to IBM's reluctance to pay for RHEL developers and mocked that IBM could buy Oracle products directly if it wanted to save money. As of press time, Red Hat had no comment.
