CTOnews.com July 13, Samsung Semiconductor announced today that it has begun mass production of a new in-car UFS 3.1 memory solution optimized for in-vehicle infotainment system (IVI), which claims to have the lowest power consumption of Samsung's in-car memory.

According to reports, Samsung's UFS 3.1 (general flash memory) will launch three capacities of 128,256 and 512 gigabytes (GB). In future automotive (electric or self-driving) applications, the enhanced product lineup will be able to manage battery life more effectively. Among them, the product with 256GB capacity consumes about 33% less power than the previous generation, and also provides a sequential write speed of 700 megabytes per second (MB/s) and a sequential read speed of 2000MB/s.

In addition, the new Automotive UFS 3.1 solution meets the Automotive Electronics Association (AEC-Q100) Class 2 (Automotive Semiconductor quality Standard) and claims to maintain stable performance over a wide temperature range from minus 40 °C to 105 °C.

Hyunduk Cho, vice president of Samsung memory product planning team, said: "Samsung's new UFS 3.1 solution meets the needs of different customers to optimize IVI systems in a timely manner, while meeting the next-generation memory trend that requires higher 'environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG)' standards."

CTOnews.com learned from Samsung Semiconductor officials that Samsung is expected to supply UFS 3.1 products to global automakers and parts manufacturers by the end of this year.
