CTOnews.com, July 12 (Reuters)-Amazon's first-day sales of its annual Prime Day shopping event reached $6.4 billion in the United States (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 46.144 billion yuan), an increase of nearly 6 percent over the same period last year, and big discounts seem to be the most attractive to consumers who buy large amounts of home appliances and toys.

Online sales of home appliances and toys rose 37% and 27% on the first day of Prime Day, according to ▲ source PixabayAdobe Analytics. The data also show that Amazon discounts 16% on electronics, 15% on toys and 13% on clothing during the event.

Sales of goods in the back-to-school category also increased as parents wanted to update wardrobes and school supplies more cheaply, with clothing sales up 26% and electronics up 12%. Another Deloitte data shows that 69% of shoppers plan to go back to school through Amazon's Prime Day promotion.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Amazon offered more attractive discounts to US consumers during the Prime Day this year because of high inflationary pressures, and even partnered with Priceline, a travel booking site, to offer travel discounts. Analysts say inflation makes US consumers try to reduce unnecessary spending, so even during Prime Day, they are more likely to give priority to experiential services (such as travel, hotels, etc.).
