CTOnews.com, July 12 (Xinhua)-- British sports car maker Caterham recently unveiled a new electric sports car called the Project V at the Goodwood Speed Festival, which is expected to be on the market as early as the end of 2025.
The Project V was designed by Anthony Jannarelly, the new chief designer of Caterham, and was built as an electric car from the start. The car uses a 200kW motor installed on the rear axle and a 55kWh USOC lithium-ion battery pack. It has an output power of 268hp and a range of 249km (CTOnews.com Note: about 400.73 km). Using a 150kW DC fast charger, it can charge from 20% to 80% in 15 minutes.
Following the minimalist design concept of Caterham, the Project V is simple and lightweight and weighs about 1190 kilograms. With carbon fiber and aluminum alloy composite as the chassis, fully adjustable front and rear double-arm suspension and electric power steering are used. Caterham estimates that the car can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 143mph (about 230.14 km / h).
The Project V display car has a unique 2x1 seat layout, or it can be equipped with a 2x2 layout. Caterham says this layout optimizes the comfort of rear passengers and provides greater flexibility. The dashboard of the car is very simple, and there are two round digital meters in front of the steering wheel. There are a series of joystick switches under the center console that allow the driver to switch between Normal, Sport and Sprint modes to adjust acceleration, suspension and steering. The entertainment system is also simple and intuitive and supports smartphone mirroring.
According to Bob Laishley, CEO of Caterham Cars Ltd, Project V is not just a design research or concept car. The development team conducted engineering and production feasibility studies throughout the development process. "Project V fulfills our ambition to develop a sustainable company and explore electrification at the same time." "depending on the next phase of development and technical capabilities, Project V may be on the market by the end of 2025 or early 2026," he said.
As for the existing Seven,Laishley, the Project V sports car is not intended to replace it, but to complement it. "We believe that by retaining the core values of Caterham, it will attract our existing customer base and attract new fans." "by using a more practical coupe body and taking advantage of electric cars, this is a car suitable for shopping, taking children to school or speeding on Sunday mornings," he said. "
Project V will participate in the 2023 Goodwood Speed Festival together with a number of electric vehicles such as the Pininfarina Battista Edizione Nino Farina and MG4 EX4 concept cars.
