CTOnews.com, July 12, SUSE announced today that it will make fork available Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and will develop and maintain a RHEL-compatible distribution that everyone can use without restrictions. Over the next few years, SUSE plans to invest more than $10 million in the project (CTOnews.com Note: about 72.088 million yuan).

Dirk-Peter van Leeuwen, chief executive of ▲ Tuyuan SUSESUSE, said: "collaboration and common success have been the cornerstone of our open source community for decades. We have a responsibility to defend these values. This investment will maintain the flow of innovation in the coming years and ensure that customers and communities are not locked in by suppliers, so that customers and communities can make real choices today and tomorrow."

Many corporate customers and communities rely on Linux-related distributions, and SUSE says they remain fully committed to investing in their Linux solutions, such as SLE and openSUSE. At the same time, SUSE believes that enterprises and the open source community should have a choice and get rid of the vendor lock-in.

SUSE plans to contribute the project to the Open Source Foundation to develop long-term and lasting compatible alternatives for RHEL and CentOS users, which will provide continuous free access to alternative source code.
