The patented technology, titled "Devices, Methods and Graphical User Interfaces for Synchronizing More than Two Screens," allows passengers to access vehicle systems through synchronized iPhone, iPad and Mac devices in an in-vehicle environment.

Apple said in the patent that with multiple display devices in the car, the method of displaying content on these devices is cumbersome and inefficient, and Apple's goal is to provide a fast, accurate and efficient system and method for mapping controls and other input sources to more than two screen devices.

A portable electronic device is defined as including a portable screen and capable of communicating with a vehicle, displaying a first user interface on the portable device.

The portable electronic device sends information to the vehicle display, which is then used to generate a second user interface.

When the second user interface is displayed on the vehicle display, detecting the input activates a prompt in the second user interface and in response causes the portable electronic device to invoke the digital assistant.

In response to invoking the digital assistant, the user is prompted to make a voice request. displaying a digital assistant dialog box within the second user interface in response to receiving the voice request.

User interface objects associated with the search results are then displayed within the second user interface and the first user interface is maintained on the portable device display.
