CTOnews.com, July 11 (Xinhua)-- Amazon's annual Prime Day will be held today and tomorrow, according to Reuters. Amazon is offering consumers a bigger discount on its Prime Day this year because of severe inflation in the United States, analysts said.

▲ Touyuan Pixabay according to Bank of America, this year's Prime Day, Amazon offered a 60 per cent discount on GAP clothing, a 50 per cent discount on Sony headphones and a 40 per cent discount on Pelonton fitness bikes, all unprecedented discounts.

Amazon Prime members can also use the "Buy With Prime" service to check out at Amazon third-party merchants, thus enjoying up to 40 per cent discount on purchases of Sherpani bags or ZOA energy drinks.

According to the Adobe Digital economy Index, AOL sales during Amazon's Prime Day last year reached nearly $12 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 86.76 billion yuan), an increase of 8.5% over the previous year, because inflation-hit US consumers had to choose to buy discounted necessities and electronics during the Prime Day.

Michael Ashley Schulman, chief investment officer of Running Point Capital Advisors, said Amazon's Prime Day sales growth would slow this year as many US consumers still suffer from post-epidemic fatigue and are cautious about spending "lavishly".

Shulman added that they "want to spend more money on experience, travel and entertainment". Amazon also introduced Prime Day travel discounts for the first time this year, partnering with Priceline, a travel booking site, to offer an additional 20 per cent discount on Priceline's Hotel Express offer, while Hotel Express itself offers up to 60 per cent discount on hotel reservations.

Prime Day will also face stiff competition from other retailers such as Wal-Mart this year, which offers a lot of discounts during the "Plus Week" period, while Plus Week for Walmart+ members just opened on Monday. Best Buy, the home appliance chain, is also offering more discounts through the "July Black Friday" promotion, which begins on Monday.
