CTOnews.com, July 11 (Xinhua)-- Elizabeth Holmes, founder and former CEO of US blood testing company Theranos, has received a commuted sentence and reduced her prison sentence by two years, and is now expected to be released on December 29, 2032.

According to her profile on the Federal Prison Service website, Holmes's release date has been advanced by nearly two years, and she was supposed to serve 11 years and three months in prison. The agency confirmed her commutation to the Guardian, but made no further comment on the prisoners' privacy and security.

Theranos, which once claimed to be able to quickly detect whether a person has cancer, diabetes and other diseases by collecting a few drops of blood from his fingertips, was thought to have "revolutionized the diagnosis of the disease" and was valued at $9 billion at one point. But after the scam was exposed, Theranos fell off the altar and went bankrupt.

Holmes, which was sued for fraud in 2018, still sends inaccurate test results to patients knowing there are technical problems. In 2022, Holmes was found guilty of defrauding investors, sentenced to 135 months in prison and released under three years of supervision. Holmes, who has been released on bail since she was charged, tried unsuccessfully to persuade the court to allow her not to be imprisoned during the appeal, and was sent to a minimum security women's prison in Texas on May 30 this year.

It is not clear why her sentence was quietly shortened, but it could be reduced by factors such as good performance, completion of tasks and rehabilitation plans, and points earned by participation in various activities. According to the website of the Federal Prison Service, Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani, the former president of Theranos, will also be released in April 2034 two years earlier than expected.

In addition to being jailed and released under supervision, Holmes was ordered to pay $452 million in compensation to the victim (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 3.268 billion yuan). It is reported that Holmes was expected to have a net worth of $4.5 billion (currently about 32.535 billion yuan) before Theranos fell to the altar. A year later, Forbes magazine reduced her net worth to zero, and her lawyer argued that she could not pay an extra $250 a month to repay the victim after she was released from prison.
