CTOnews.com, July 11 (Xinhua)-- the French government announced the launch of a "Future Network" research project led by CEA, CNRS and IMT to support future network-related research and development such as 5G applications.

In addition, France will allocate 65 million euros (CTOnews.com Note: about 516 million yuan at present) to support scientific excellence in this field and meet the technological needs of future industrial innovation in the network field, and hopes to jointly launch the "French 6G" platform with other institutions in order to fully prepare for the arrival of 6G network.

The French Future Network Research Program (PEPR), headed by the Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), the National Scientific Research Centre (CNRS) and the Institute of Mining Telecommunications (IMT), brings together the country's public research institutions to participate in 10 large-scale research projects on future network technologies.

Sylvie Retailleau, French Minister of higher Education and Scientific Research, and Jean-No ë l Barrot, the ministerial representative responsible for digital transformation and telecommunications, announced at the French National Union of higher Mining and Telecommunications Schools (IMT) on the same day that the goal of "Future Network" is to support future scientific and technological research excellence in networking to meet the technological needs of industrial innovation in this field. The plan can enjoy the budget of 65 million euros provided in the "France 2030" investment plan.

According to reports, the "Future Network" research plan includes four main lines: developing 5G applications to improve France's economic competitiveness, developing French independent communication network solutions, strengthening the research and development strength of future networks, and strengthening training and attracting international talents.

The French government will commission IMT to launch the "French 6G" platform, which aims to involve the country's industry, academia and relevant institutions in the development of 6G standards in a more coordinated manner, officials said.

The French 6G platform aims to strengthen European and international cooperation as a centre for intellectual property asset development and to adopt international standards that focus on environmental and social issues.

Barrow pointed out that in addition to public research, France's industrial ecology must be mobilized to play a key role in the development of 6G standards.
