CTOnews.com Linux founder Linus Torvalds announced on July 10 that the first release candidate for Linux 6.5 has been released, meaning that the new feature code for this version has been frozen.

Linux 6.5 brings many improvements, including new cachestat () system calls, UEFI not accepting memory processing, initial support for Intel Lunar Lake audio, initial support for USB4 v2, retirement of SLAB allocator, SMT and SIMD / Vector support for LoongArch architecture, overclocking support for AMD RDNA3 graphics cards, performance improvements for Btrfs file systems, Load Balancer optimization for Intel hybrid CPUs, and more. Furthermore, the Bcachefs file system was not incorporated into Linux 6.5.

CTOnews.com notes that Torvalds said in the announcement that there is nothing particularly unusual about Linux 6.5, but he has a hunch that this release may be delayed, not because of any particular problem, but because many Europeans will be on vacation in August, but he also said that everything depends on the situation.
