CTOnews.com, July 10 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- Evernote, once a popular note-taking app, recently announced a series of major changes. The company was founded in northern California in 2004, but said in its official blog this weekend that most of its American and Chilean employees will be laid off and its development team relocated to Europe. The blog post did not disclose the number of layoffs, but said it would provide employees with 16 weeks' salary, one year's health insurance and performance bonuses.

Evernote was acquired by Italian company Bending Spoons for an undisclosed amount in early 2023. According to the blog post, the European team will be responsible for future Evernote development, which will take full advantage of the expertise and strength of Bending Spoons's more than 400 employees, many of whom have been working full-time at Evernote since the acquisition.

Evernote used to be a very popular note-taking application and service, but it has been challenged by many competitors in recent years. These include Microsoft, which is not only constantly optimizing its OneNote applications, but also recently launched a public preview of its Loop online collaboration service.

Bending Spoons laid off 123 Evernote team members in February after it formally completed its acquisition of Evernote in early January 2023. In April, it announced a big increase in the price of its monthly and annual packages, raising the price of its annual Evernote personal subscription from $69.99 to $129.99. (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 940 yuan).

In the same blog post that announced the price increase, Evernote also mentioned that some new features are being added, including real-time editing, so that users can make changes to their notes on their smartphones and see them on the Evernote laptop app. Artificial intelligence-based features will also be added, including AI note cleaning, which can "clean up" any unwanted content, as well as an AI search feature that allows users to ask questions and get answers based on their notes, which is expected to be launched in the second half of 2023.
