CTOnews.com, July 10, Samsung SDI previously announced that it plans to start trial production of lithium iron phosphate and nickel manganese batteries later this year, and plans to start producing cylindrical 4680 batteries for Tesla's Model Y car as early as next quarter.

Samsung SDI will produce 4680 batteries in Europe, The Elec said, citing industry insiders. To this end, the company has begun to prepare for the expansion of the Goed plant in Hungary, which aims to start construction in the second half of the year.

Foreign media discussed the 4680 battery project at the Nano Korea 2023 event. It is said that this is the result of a cooperation between Samsung and BMW and plans to carry out production at the third factory in Hungary.

It is said that Samsung SDI will first develop and mass-produce 4680 batteries, and then increase production of 4695 and 46120 batteries. It is worth mentioning that Samsung SDI makes 46 series batteries in three main versions-4680, 4695 and 46120-while BMW requires 46120.

As for capacity, officials expect it to be around 10GWh. Unlike other batteries, the capacity of cylindrical batteries increases with the increase of PPM speed.
