CTOnews.com, July 10, according to foreign media tom's hardware, a community-based project "Windows Update Restored" was launched a few days ago, with the goal of re-providing Windows Update support for old systems, providing upgrade patches, bug or security vulnerabilities for "ancient" Microsoft operating systems such as Windows 95 / NT 4.0 SE 98 (including SE) / ME/ 2000 SP2.

However, CTOnews.com noted that the project manager made a statement that this is not an official project supported by Microsoft, and that these updates are only collated by a third party.

Specifically, take Windows 95 as an example, the size of a key update package of the system is 3.1MB, the size of a security update is 124kb, and the optional update size of Direct X 8a is 11.2MB. These may seem trivial at present, but they were of medium or larger size at the time.

In addition, the person in charge of the project also said that support for newer versions of operating systems such as Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista will be gradually introduced.

However, the person in charge did not explicitly suggest that the project be used to maintain older versions of Windows, or to use these "ancient systems" for daily use, and that PC users would use "more modern, more secure" operating systems such as Windows 10 and Windows 11.
