CTOnews.com, July 9 (Reuters)-French Finance Minister Bruno Lemerre said on Sunday that he was "very hopeful" that Tesla would invest heavily in European electric vehicle production projects in France.

Musk recently met with French government officials, including President Emmanuel Macron, to discuss the choice of future production bases.

Asked whether the investment might be related to battery cells or other parts of Tesla's business, Mr Lemerre told French LCI: "there are a number of options under discussion... he [Musk] knows he will be welcome in France, which depends on his decision."

CTOnews.com notes that France has been seeking to improve its position in the electric car industry and opened its first electric car battery factory this year.
