CTOnews.com, July 6 (Reuters)-according to data released by employment company Challenger, Gray & Christmas, the pace of layoffs among US employers slowed in June, the lowest since October 2022.

The ▲ Touyuan Pexels report showed that the number of US layoffs was 40709 in June, up from 32517 in June last year, but down 49 per cent from May. The United States laid off a total of 458209 jobs from January to June, an increase of 244 percent from 133211 last year. Analysts said the sharp increase in layoffs this year was mainly due to employers "preparing" for the prospect of a recession.

The technology industry still has the fastest rate of layoffs in the United States. The report shows that the total number of layoffs in the US technology industry in the first half of this year was 141516, an increase of 2353 per cent from 5769 in the same period in 2022. On a month-on-month basis, however, the pace of layoffs at technology companies has slowed by nearly 80 per cent. Us technology companies cut 4685 jobs in June, compared with 22887 in May.

The Labor Department will release monthly unemployment data and wage changes on Friday, with economists polled by Reuters predicting that the US will add 225000 jobs in June, down from 339000 in May, and the unemployment rate will fall from 3.7 per cent to 3.6 per cent.

CTOnews.com has previously reported that more than 210000 employees have been laid off in the global technology industry since 2023. That's far more than 154000 in 2022, and only half a year has passed this year.
