CTOnews.com, July 6 (Reuters)-Social media giant Meta (formerly Facebook) recently launched an app similar to Twitter, Threads, which has attracted the attention of the industry and users. Analysts and industry experts believe that Threads will soon become a major threat to Musk's Twitter with its close ties with Instagram, a similar interface to Twitter and the advertising advantages of Meta.

Threads, known as the "Twitter killer", attracted 10 million users within seven hours of its launch, as well as celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Gordon Ramsey. Meta's shares rose 1 per cent in pre-market trading on Thursday and were up 3 per cent the day before the Threads launch.

Some analysts believe that Threads is reminiscent of Meta's success in integrating the core functions of platforms such as Snapchat and TikTok on Instagram, such as Stories and Reels. At least four brokerages have raised their share price targets for Meta, which has doubled this year.

Victoria Scholler, head of interactive investor investment, said: "there is no doubt that there will be bumps on the road, but if Threads is as successful as its initial registration numbers suggest, it may support Meta's share price."

Threads is currently available in more than 100 countries and is the No. 1 free app in Apple's App Store in the United States, while Twitter ranks 26th. Threads has also become a hot topic on Twitter, where many users share links to their personal pages on competitor apps. However, Threads lacks some of the features that Twitter has. Threads doesn't have topic tags and keyword search, which means users can't follow real-time events as much as they do on Twitter.
