CTOnews.com, July 6, according to the Associated Press, European car giant Stellantis launched a new "STLA Medium" car platform yesterday, which is a new platform for medium-sized cars and the first of four new electric vehicle platforms that Stellantis has previously announced.

Stellantis plans to transfer all its future products to these four new pure electric vehicle platforms, including STLA Small, Medium, Large and Frame. The company will launch no fewer than 47 electric vehicles worldwide next year.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares (Carlos Tavares) said that the current range of all-electric compact and medium-sized cars is about 300 miles, while Stellantis will start selling small and medium-sized electric cars with a range of 435 miles next year.

The first model based on the STLA Medium platform will be the next Peugeot 3008, a small cross-border SUV. Tavares said the platform's first new car will be launched later this year.

According to Tavares, Stellantis will produce as many as 2 million cars a year through the new platform at factories in different regions of France, Italy, Germany and North America. At the same time, the company plans to build small cars priced less than $25000 (CTOnews.com Note: about 181000 yuan) in Southeast Asia and lower-cost European countries to better compete with Chinese carmakers.

Tavares stressed that all factories in France are producing higher-margin vehicles to make up for the higher dynamic costs of electric vehicles: "if we want to compete against Chinese competitors, we need to ensure that we can compete in the same way as them (global production to balance costs)."
